The French National Research Agency (ANR) is a public administrative institution under the authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. The agency funds project-based research carried out by public operators cooperating with each other or with private companies.

Maparabia (2018-2023) is one of the projects funded by the ANR (ANR-18-CE27-0015, P.I. J. Schiettecatte).

Orient et Méditerranée

The research unit ‘Orient & Méditerranée’ is a joint laboratory of the CNRS, Sorbonne Universités, University Paris 1-Panthéon-Sorbonne, the École Pratique des Hautes Études and the Collège de France. Its researches apply to the Mediterranean, the MENA region, Arabia and East Africa over a long period ranging from the Pharaonic world to the dawn of the Renaissance. The unit is organized into six units: Semitic world, Classical and Late Antiquity, Greek Medicine and Technical Literature, Byzantine world, Medieval Islam, and Pharaonic World.

UMR 5133 (CNRS / Université Lumière Lyon 2)

The research unit ‘Archéorient — Environnements et sociétés de l’Orient ancien’ is a joint laboratory of the CNRS and the University Lumière Lyon 2. It is located within the ‘Maison de l’Orient et de la Méditerranée Jean Pouilloux’. Interdisciplinary researched are carried out on ancient societies and their environment over a vast geographical area including the Mediterranean basin, the Middle East, Central Asia, Caucasus, Arabia, and Ethiopia, from the end of the Palaeolithic to the Islamic period.

The Institute of Heritage Science is an interdisciplinary institute whose mission is to pursue scientific excellence and encourage innovation in the knowledge, conservation and use of cultural heritage through collaborative research involving humanities, experimental sciences and technological applications. With over 180 researchers, technologists and technicians from various disciplines, ISPC is CNR’s hub for research, innovation, training and technological transfer of the cultural heritage strategic area.

One member of the Maparabia project is a fellow of this research unit. The CNR also hosts the DASI archive, which is harvested for the implementation of both the Gazetteer and the Digital Atlas displayed on this website.

 

Huma-Num

Huma-Num

Huma-Num is a “Very Large Research Infrastructure” (TGIR) of the CNRS, Aix-Marseille University and Campus Condorcet. It aims at facilitating the use of digital technologies in humanities and social sciences. It offers sustainable digital services on a national and European scale by relying on a large network of partners and operators.

The Maparabia archives, digital tools and website are developed with the assistance of and hosted by Huma-Num.
